Shanag Cham

This video was taken at Gonlung Monastery, northeast of Xining, capital of Qinghai Province in China.  The monastery itself is very old and has great significance, being on the main historical route to Mongolia.

The video is taken at the end of the dance, as the dancers are preparing to exit the courtyard and go to the site of the burning of the zor.  Note the Shanags in the opening seconds of the video, in the courtyard to the left.  The scene then pans right, showing other dancers, the masked dieties center front, Begtse Chen and his entourage to the right rear.  Stop and re-wind for the full effect.
